Headache
It's not working. I think I'm going to go to bed now and let the food, coffee and wine fight it out.
Though it did go away for a few fleeting seconds whenever I laughed.
I've started to get into that show 'The New Adventures of Old Christine' with Julia Louis-Dreyfus. She cracks me up. At one point her character Christine tells her ex-husband that he should call his girlfriend (who needed space so they were on a break) explaining to him that she's probably missing him and waiting by the phone. Big mistake because he called and she was actually on a date with another man. So Christine is trying to console her ex and says something like, "Richard I'm sorry, I thought I knew women. How was I supposed to know she was all full of boundaries and self esteem..."
I can't believe half this post ended up being a recap from part of a show I watched tonight. Hmm. Perhaps my life is getting a little too stable and I'm lacking material here. Or maybe I'm tired of poking fun at my life. That's why I like old Christine, she's such a total loser at times, it makes me feel better about my own (very occasional) idiotic behaviour. Did I say she cracks me up?
Oh man, I don't think I'm breathing enough here. No oxygen to the head. It hurts, oh how it hurts. More whining... Goodnight!!!

The shizzle
This is so the shizzle. Whenever I'm drawing a blank on what to post, I have an absolute WEALTH of material to fall back on. All featuring this girl. Ya diggit?
Blueberry Pancakes
Pancakes are a big commitment. Once the first couple don't work out, you still have to fry up the rest of the batch... And then freeze the extras so you can have mushy pancakes available for whenever you get a craving... or eternity, whichever happens first.

Nap time not crap time
Ah but I don't want to humiliate him. It'd be a good joke, but also kind of mean. Mind you, I just posted his pic on my blog... Aw c'mon, it's anonymous!
It could be worse. I could get a new gmail account. I could sign up as his supervisor. I could send him an email with photos attached and give him a hard time. End result? He'd probably crap his pants. That's when you know ya done good on a practical joke; the rank smell of feces wafting through the office...
But I don't feel like smelling poo. And I'd rather not know I was behind the whole pants pooing thing. I need to sleep at night.
Hmm, I'll think of something...
One square, two square, three square... MORE?
The funniest piece of advice was from Sheryl Crow when she was brainstorming ideas about cutting down on paper products. I agree with her that people waste paper like crazy. I'm actually a bit nuts about it. Whether it's using paper cups every day, taking a stack of paper napkins at the restaurant, using multiple strips of paper towels to dry hands off in the bathroom, or even printing on one side of a page only...
It all drives me to the point of appearing the freak and going Terry Tate on their ASS! Haha, there really should be a Terry Tate Environmental Linebacker to beat a little sense into some people!
... They be in for a surprise! A RUDE, PAINFUL SURPRISE!!!
Ok, so back to Sheryl Crow... From her blog, she says:
Now, I don't want to rob any law-abiding American of his or her God-given rights, but I think we are an industrious enough people that we can make it work with only one square per restroom visit, except, of course, on those pesky occasions where 2 to 3 could be required. When presenting this idea to my younger brother, who's judgement I trust implicitly, he proposed taking it one step further. I believe his quote was, "how bout just washing the one square out."
ONE SQUARE? And two for twosies??? Does this lady NOT CRAP? Doesn't she ever have to pinch a sticky one off? Hahaha! Sorry, that was a little graphic, but it makes my point. I admit, some people overdo the whole toilet paper thing, but one isn't enough to wipe my cat's ass!
Anyways, at the end of a subsequent post, she says:
And by the way guys, the toilet paper thing...it was a JOKE!!
I'm wondering what part was the joke? She must be referring to her brother's comment? That was funny! I dunno, she seemed serious... though laughable.

Protein metabolism in aging
I went to a lecture about protein metabolism in aging the other day.
Before the lecture, my friend was explaining some of the changes that occur in aging. I told her that I knew quite a bit about it. In fact, I had quite a beef with the whole aging thing. Why is it that our physical peak is wasted on us at our most naive and stupidest? She said that this was to facilitate reproduction.
Good point.
I was trying to explain to her that I have another issue with the physical peak thing. I was raunchy-looking as a teenager; all geeky and stuff. That started to turn around a little into my 20s (I actually learned to hide it better, hehe... smoke and mirrors;). Now, mid-30s, things start to go downhill again. What’s with that?
So this means that there's only a measly 15 year window where I’m at my physical peak???
If I live until 85 then physically and relatively speaking... Let me get the math right on this:
I suck for 60 years!?!?
Ok, so I thought it was funnier when I was ranting off to her about it on the way to the seminar. But then it had all the yelling and gestures and faces. Oh well. You had to be there. Or maybe she didn't think it was funny either. Good thing I'm around to entertain my own self all the time. Hence, this blog.

Why Saturn Why?
Well, the auto maker Saturn just added this tune to their new commercial. I actually like the song, especially watching the muppets perform it. It fascinates me. Why a car maker would want to put a muppets tune as a theme to an automobile advertisement beats me. The thing is that the chorus (one word over and over and over) gets etched in the brain. It's repetitiveness is delightfully charming for the 2 minutes of the song. The repetitiveness that continues in my head for the next 20 minutes drives me to the brink of insanity. After about an hour, out of sheer desperation, I'll even listen to Achy Breaky Heart in an attempt to displace the bloody thing.
Maybe Saturn used it because the ad wizard who came up with the commercial (like most of us) thought the song said "Phenomenon doo doo doo doo doo Phenomenon doo doo doo doo..."

Date a weirdo or don't date?
T.O. woman turns in fugitive American boyfriend.
She was engaged to a killer and didn't even know it until he revealed his true identity to her and she Googled him.
There are a lot of weirdoes out there, and I'm not talking about the type of weirdoes who post pictures of themselves making faces on the Internet. That type may be annoying but they wouldn't do stuff to people or animals just because they had the inclination to and could.
The woman did the right thing. She was either a strong person or had doubts about the guy in the first place. In which case, why would she be engaged to the guy? Anyways, some women will do anything to get and keep a man, so I was very impressed.
What about the lengths people will go to in order to avoid risking their comfy single status quo for love? These people usually take a worst case scenario and use it to justify their behaviour.

Meet Joe Black AGAIN
It always begins the same. I start watching so that I can gawk at Brad Pitt for a while (even though I don't have a crush on BP, I do think he's eye-numblingly beautiful. And don't worry, I realize that hair, makeup, wardrobe and cinematography helps A LOT). Next thing I know, I'm being drawn into the story AGAIN. Somehow, I get mezmerized. I can't take my eyes off the screen. Of course it's the kind of show a girl usually loves... A woman who has given up on her dream of fairytale love discovers that it really can happen. He looks perfect, he says the perfect things, incidentally she looks perfect too, and they walk together holding hands into the perfect fireworks ending. Somehow I don't hurl onto the coffeetable during all of this. I'm not sure why. Maybe it's because the movie is very well done. Don't get me wrong, there are some discrepancies in the writing that I can't figure out. For instance, why hadn't Death, aka Joe Black, heard of the saying, "It's as sure as death and taxes" and yet in the next scene or so he spits out another common saying (can't remember what it was now). There are definitely times he doesn't know things and others where he seems to be all-knowing. Weird.
Anyways, what starts out as me having it on in the background while I work on something else winds up as a major distraction. Like a cartoon character who is walking by and smells a delicious pie on a window sill, I go into a trance-like state. I start floating in the air with my nose following the scent until I'm plunked down in front of the television screen, marvelling over how a human being can look so perfect.
Oh well. Now I'd better get something done today... And the TV stays OFF!

Working at home
- Sedentation. Lack of movement causes stiffness and soreness and I didn't even DO anything! What the? This one isn't so good for an expanding butt either.
- Boredom. Usually when I'm bored of working on spreadsheets at home, there's the fridge. But I'm trying real hard not to snack lately. At one point the banana on the counter by my desk and I had a pretty good stare-down. It's amazing how good that banana looks when you can't have it.
- Random thoughts. Working at home makes you vulnerable to a wandering mind. Thinking about how badly I wanted that banana made me ponder the phenomenon I call unrequited proximity infatuation. That is... Someone is around a lot. You can't have them. Suddenly they become the most delectable thing on the planet. Ugh. Damn you banana! Tease.
- Spontaneous ADD. Anything, and I mean anything can be distracting when trying to work at home. I mentioned the fridge. Phone calls to catch up on. There's laundry to do. (Especially washing things that haven't been washed in 15 years. Hey, Garfield had fun!) ... I finally cut my toenails (I'm sure you really wanted to know that). Emailed some people several times. I read blogs and commented on blogs (and proceeded to make typos which made the comment mean the opposite of what I'd meant to write!!! Sheesh!) Incidentally, this blog post --Spotting Trends-- totally cracked me up... Then there was my cat giving me her irresistable you know you wanna come over here and give me hugs and kisses look. Oh, and I took photos of snowflakes. What??? C'mon, they were HUGE!
Now before you call me a total slacker, you should know that I did get some work done! Ah whatever, you're going to call me names anyways. Sticks and stones... You're rubber I'm glue... No, YOU'RE weak!
Lunch break is officially OVER. Bye.

I'm drowning in clutter!
I love this quote. It's so me. Not about working out, but all the "I gotta" statements in life. Of course there are definitely some things you wish you could do once and then it's done. Exercise, cleaning and shaving are 3 of those things. If that was the case, I'd work out till I dropped... and then reap the benefits forever! Alas, there is the upkeep. The benefits from the crazyass workout just don't count anymore after a few days of couch potatohood... and somehow the house even gets dirty when you're not home for weeks. What's with that?
So now it's time to catch up. The shaving part was easy, I mean, no one wants to look at man-pits. The exercise, well, it happens. The cleaning... KRIKE. If you happened to be at my house tonight, you would've heard, "Help! I'm drowning in clutter!!!" coming from my bedroom.
Perhaps I'm in the wrong field. I should have gotten into epigenetics. Then maybe I'd have a hope of switching off this packrat-gene.

Ouch
Wait a minute... maybe there is SOME resemblance.
Ouch. Looking at that thing is painful. I didn't wanna post it, but it's only fair.
Hmm, actually reminds me a wee bit of Fire Marshall Bill.

I will try to do better!
In fact, the Aussies were so unappreciated that one of the conversations with a male friend went like this:
him: so yeah .... how bad did your blog suck the other day?
me: which one, the aussie one?
him: easy on the scantily clad males in their stuffed ginch
me: couldn't open it at work eh? people would think you were looking at gay porn, hehehe
him: I can't be looking at that shit at work, haha, nor do I want to
me: it was an unintentional boobie trap... or should I say, ginch trap
him: friggin overbearing... I would have preferred a booby trap... at least I would get fired with my dignity intact
me: did you like the kermit one though?
him: never watched it for fear of being overwhelmed by crotch luggage
An email from another male friend said this (after the Rude! post):
The picture on your blog today has frightened me away from your site.
But then of course, no one was happy after my Scabs are icky! post.
Ok folks, I will try to clean it up a bit. No promises.
I know you don't believe me. And you shouldn't.

Scabs are icky
Today it is gone.
Where did it go?
Ewwwwww.

Rude!
I turned to the guy I was with all red-faced and said, "Uh, I'm not sure why my dad would send me THAT." And then I deleted it swiftly and tried to choke down my embarrassment.
I repeat, WTF?!? What kind of parties do they think I go to!!??!! My jaw almost fractured as it plummetted to the floor. Wow, they must think I have quite the life... wild nudie parties with naked men posing for photos. That's their daughter alright, wild and crazy and completely perverted!!!
As it turns out, I'd downloaded Picasa onto Dad's computer over the holidays so that he could post photos on his blog. Picasa searches the computer for all picture files and displays them nicely for you to see. This photo caught his attention. So, as it turns out, this was on his computer THE WHOLE TIME.
Uh Dad? The real question is, why did YOU have this photo on YOUR computer? HMMMMM???? Sure, it was the housesitter. Of course it was. You'd never seen it before in your life... Riiiiiight.

A Million Ways to be "Cool"
Jen and I showed up at the Silversun Pickups, Ok Go, Snow Patrol concert on Tuesday night. I can't express how much I thoroughly enjoyed it! Of course, poor Jensies couldn't see much at times. I threatened to pound on some people who were pushing into her. For some reason she said not to. Anyways, I guess it was the last stop on their North American tour, so did they EVER make a show of it. It was so much fun! I liked Ok Go before, but now I'm in loooove. They're cool in a million trillion kajillion ways. So I put together a little video. It's kind of long and the quality sucks, but you will at least get a wee taste of the fun!
ps. There's no Silversun Pickups on there because I always worry at first that I'm going to get in trouble for taking photos. That wears off after a bit...

Evidence of the move-in
I got back from being away for the weekend, Deneen was nowhere to be found. However, there was evidence that she had, in fact, moved in. Her side of the fridge had... BEER. Haha, that's the Deneen I know and love!
Yay, no more drinking alone! Besides, I heard that you're never supposed to drink alone, unless you're by yourself.
Of course, it appears that I'll have to make her dinner in order to get a beer.

Roomie Auditions!
A little Quiz if you will.
It starts with a written portion, first Multiple Choice then Short Answer, followed by a Trial Period with hidden cameras. Here’s an example of what I’ve come up with so far…
MULTIPLE CHOICE
1. How do you handle spills in the kitchen? Do you:
A) Notice.
B) Let falling food lie.
C) Think, “I’ll clean it up later” and then forget, while it collects sock lint, dust bunnies and cat hair until visitors start asking why we decided to put shag carpet in the kitchen.
D) Wipe it up with the clean kitchen cloth and return it to the sink.
E) Clean it right away with an old cloth or paper towel.
2. How do you look with your shirt off?
A) Exactly like Brad Pitt.
B) I’m no Brad Pitt but I’m pretty fit and not shy about showing it.
C) Napoleon Dynamite and me could be twins, and I’m not shy about showing it.
D) Exactly like Homer Simpson but hairier.
E) I never take my shirt off around people, it stinks too much.
3. As soon as you hear Mich arriving home, you immediately:
A) Change the TV from sports to Oprah or The Hour, pour her a glass of wine and prepare for her foot rub.
B) Shut the porn off and race for the bedroom with your clothes.
C) Loudly belch out an impression of Ed McMahon saying, “And heeeere’s Michie!”
D) Ask how her day was and offer to share your beer and pizza.
E) Continue to snore and drule on the couch while the TV blares and your dinner burns on the stove.
4. What do you do when it’s really hot in the apartment?
A) Strip down to your aussiBums and make margueritas.
B) Open the patio door so that the cats run out and the beetles run in.
C) Buy an air conditioner and crank it until the apartment reaches near freezing temperatures.
D) Whine incessantly.
E) Drink beer, curse and sweat all over the furniture.
5. What is the best movie of all time?
A) Anything with Sylvester Stallone or Steven Seagal.
B) Tie between Ace Ventura Pet Detective and Wedding Crashers.
C) Dukes of Hazzard.
D) Deep Throat.
E) Natural Born Killers.
6. Most guys are frequent farters, please choose the answer that best describes your gas.
A) Silent but violent. They’ve been known to wake someone out of a dead sleep, from the smell not the sound.
B) Hard on the ears, easy on the nose.
C) I don’t fart.
D) It’s pretty minimal unless someone gives me cabbage soup, then it’s Shart City all the way.
E) I’m a Secret Agent farter. You may think I’m leaving the room to go pee or get something from my bedroom, but it’s actually Operation Hide-my-Gas in action. I understand that even if my farts don’t smell, no one wants to constantly hear my shorts rumble or smell the air that was just inside my butt. It’s only right.
7. Would you say that Mich’s bedroom is:
A) Completely off-limits, except when she's ready for her massage.
B) Fair game for romping in when she’s away on the weekend.
C) A smorgasbord of interesting tidbits that must be fully investigated (and sniffed).
D) A good place to play practical jokes on her like putting icky stuff in her bed, boobie trapping her door or putting smelly stuff where she’ll never find it.
E) Terrifying. I feel compelled to clean it but steer clear.
F) All of the above.
SHORT ANSWER
1. If a cat was stuck in one tree and there was a beer in the other… and both were about to fall, which one would you catch?
2. How thick does the mould have to get on your dishes before you bring them from your bedroom to the kitchen?
3. Do you know how to load and empty a dishwasher?
4. Do you know all the words to the Offspring – Self Esteem or Green Day – Basket Case? If so, please write out just the chorus. If not, explain honestly.
5. Do you bring friends home at 4AM on a school night? Are they hot?
6. Do you know where the garbage goes in the back alley and how to get it there? Can you pick up on subtle hints such as, “Woah that garbage smells” or “It’s awfully dark out there”…
7. Do you rinse your cereal bowl out immediately after eating breakfast?
8. How many hours per week do you watch sports? What kind of sports? If it’s golf, please explain.
9. Do you pick your nose while watching the TV? If so, please outline the events that follow an average nose-picking session. Does it involve furniture or flicking? If you've answered in the affirmative for any part of this question, please put the quiz down and exit the building immediately. Do not touch anything on your way out. Might as well take my pen with you.
10. Can you hold a conversation about anything other than sports or beer or naked chicks? If so, what can you tell me about important environmental concerns, the philosophical issues surrounding human ethical behaviour or the enzyme kinetics of acetyl-CoA carboxylase? Are you able to write an entire doctoral thesis on the causes of hypertriglyceridemia in diabetes patients?
11. Name 2 food groups besides MacDonald’s and KFC.
HIDDEN CAMERA TRIAL PERIOD
The person with the highest score on the quiz would graduate to moving in for a trial period. The first week there would be some strategic scenarios in place to test his behaviour in specific situations and also, of course, to confirm the honesty of his answers to the written portion. If all goes well when I review the tapes, he could officially move in!
SCENARIOS
New non stick fry pan… does he use the metal or plastic flipper?
Toilet cam… how’s his aim?
He has friends over… does he “borrow” beer to give them, use coasters, participate in or discourage them from tormenting the cats … and are his friends hot?
Music hour… Punk music comes on and gets loud. What is his reaction? Does he panic and frantically try to find the ‘off’ switch or does he dance around? How are his air guitar skills? (Bad air guitar can result in immediate dismissal from the trial period.) When Mich starts singing, does he cringe and run for cover, laugh or sing along?
Well, those are just a few ideas about the roommate auditions. Luckily I don't have to look any further, because Deneen is coming back!!! Yay. Phew! I didn't really want the perfect man around. That's asking for Trouble... and I never ask for that. What was I looking for with this quiz anyways, a roomie or a freakin husband!?!
Ahem. I'm not looking for a husband. Perhaps a House Boy is in order though. Hmm. Just because Deneen is moving in doesn't mean we can't both use a House Boy around here...
FYI: Answers for the Multiple Choice section- 1E, 2B, 3D, 4A, 5B, 6E, 7E.

In appreciation of Aussies
On our last night in Vegas, we had a girl's night out. Of course I was curious about the Thunder from Down Under, and dropped hints to this nature. Mom agreed to go. It was loud, both because of the music and all the girls screaming. It was fun though. The guys could REALLY dance, even breakdancing, which I love to watch. Their bodies weren't too hard on the eyes either. I developed a wee little crush on the one guy (that's him, second from the RIGHT... bald guy, surprise surprise). Sure he had a nice body, but it was his smile, dance moves and jokeyness that drew me in. We stayed to watch girls get their photos taken with the boys, but I refused get one taken with them. It felt... tacky. I would have if my mom had agreed to as well, but I was too shy to go on my own. Of course, now that I'm blogging about it, the tacky is out in the open and I should have the picture to show for it!If you go to their website, you can watch a video for Save a Horse, Ride a Cowboy and my favourite bald man is in it :) Incidentally, that was the last song they danced to during the show, and I admit - dripping with cheese and all - it was a bit of a guilty pleasure to watch.
In parousing the site, I came across this picture of Jimmy Kimmel with the Thunder and it cracked me up. He's just so damn sexy!

Um, what's with his package though? I have to wonder if he isn't sporting the new "Wonderjock" underwear from aussieBum. He looks a little, uh, enhanced.
You see aussieBum has finally evened out the playing field for men, in that they can now buy the equivalent of those padded Wonderbras that women have been wearing to enhance their own assets... If you want to get more info on these undies, check out the ad (see this video, seriously check it out ladies).
This ad is definitely edgy and caused it's own stir on top of the stir the underwear itself already caused...

They say:
"Is it wrong to have American guys by the balls (mind you we're working through all the other countries as well). Are we still living in a day and age where freedom of expression is squashed? If anything we're simply putting it out there for the world to see and decide for themself. In the coming weeks we'll be displaying alot of the media coverage. Not only is it absolutely entertaining it does prove that a guys size does matter. Here's another bit of trivia. Guess who the biggest buyer of the 'Wonderjock' was over the festive season? It was women. Perhaps they know something their man does not. It's our reality... so enjoy it."
I really don't have any complaints about the ads. None whatsoever.

Truth or Fiction?
Nope. Not this year. Don't get me wrong, I had a good time today, hehehe. You know who you suckers are!!! Ah, all in good fun.
The trick to getting someone to believe what you say on this fine day is to pick something that's believable, yet somewhat strange or exciting. Sometimes truth is stranger than fiction, so it can be hard to tell the difference (especially when it comes to my life). I can't really blame people for believing my ruses.
Speaking of truth vs fiction, I stumbled on this awesome website the other day. It's the Museum of Hoaxes. Part of it is the Hoax Photo Test. You know those stupidass emails that idiots get suckered in to forwarding to everyone? Well, I often bust those with www.snopes.com. However, I took the Hoax Photo Test, and I was wrong almost half the time as to what was a hoax and what was real! Some examples of what is in the test:

This is a photo of a fitness centre in San Diego where the patrons take the escalator rather than the stairs! TRUE.
And this close-call photo is actually a HOAX. The shark was added in after.
It's pretty interesting. And while you're there, check out the Top 100 April Fool's Day Hoaxes of All Time. Guess there are a lot of suckers out there!
Love it.
It's official
That's it, I'm officially quitting my PhD to become an underwear ad photographer. I am. This ain't no joke.
